Advanced Enamelling Course : Finding your own voice

ADVANCED ENAMELLING (FOR EXPERIENCED ENAMELLERS)

Gaining confidence with colour, pattern and design. Taught by Eleanor Watson.

Saturday 26th September 2026 – 10am – 4.30pm

Please note: this workshop is for advanced enamellers with significant previous experience in enamelling and who are already confident in the use of a kiln, it is not a course for new beginners. Please attend my beginners and intermediate classes before enrolling on this one. If you have other vitreous enamelling experience, please feel free to contact me to discuss first before booking. Thank you.

What this course is about: In my advanced enamelling course we will explore making connections; with your own personal inspiration, your enamelling, your colours, your designs, and your resulting enamelled pieces  (and your future customers who may buy from you.) It is perhaps too easy to become addicted to learning new techniques, gathering more and more “technical tools” but how do we take them and translate them into our own individual designs, not just coming up with copies of what the tutor makes? (Which for them and us is less satisfying, and just feels like copying? And if we are honest, it often can be!)

What is it that will set your work apart as original? This workshop is about getting beyond this point.

How do we put something of ourselves into our making so it sings out “ made by me” and everyone can tell because it speaks of us personally? This side of craft / art isn’t often taught and perhaps that’s because it is an approach that has to be caught and adopted, with some homework and preparation before we even think of lifting a sieve!

” Seeding new ideas”

Learning enamel techniques from other enamellers is only a good starting point, applying them to create your own individual style demands a deeper exploratory approach. In this workshop we will be working from an item of personal inspiration via a series of creative and observational exercises and samples each exploring our connection to our object and the stories we associate with it.

We will translate our discoveries into our artwork making a series of decorative enamelled samples and progress to enamel a 7.5cm x 7.5cm copper picture panel mounted on a 15cm x 15cm white-painted MDF square ready to hang on the wall. Your initial samples may also become a second collaged picture to take home.

If you’re up for a “thinking outside the box creative challenge” this course is for you…..!
